The unique rules that shape Amish's life

The Amish came to the US from Europe during the 19th century after separating from the Anabaptist church. They set up their own farms and communities, and have lived in very much the same way ever since. Their population has grown rapidly, and there are an estimated 300,000 living in the US today. The Amish stand out due to their strict attire and their rejection of technology. Their relative isolation from the rest of American society has provoked intrigue over the decades, as the contrast between their way of life compared with their neighbors becomes more extreme. Indeed, the rules and traditions of the Amish can seem totally bizarre to an outsider. Click through this gallery to find out what life might be like if you were Amish.

From parents posting their children to body parts being shipped out, in this gallery you'll get to know all about the weird stuff sent through the post. Click on for more.

What you shouldn't eat or drink on a flight

When reaching higher altitudes during a flight, even though cabin air pressure is controlled, the air becomes thinner due to decreased atmospheric pressure. This change affects oxygen levels in the blood, which then slows down digestive enzyme activity, causing digestion issues like bloating and nausea. For this reason, you'll want to avoid consuming certain foods and drinks before and during your flight. What's more, some things simply aren't pleasant to consume near other passengers in such a tight space. So, if you're hitting the skies, you should probably avoid these foods and drinks. Click on to discover the culprits!

The 30 most dangerous countries in the world

The world is a dangerous place to live in, especially when one considers that there are 195 countries with their own governments and their own agendas. Every year, a global think tank in Australia–called the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP)–releases a report known as the Global Peace Index. The report measures how peaceful each country in the world is by analyzing many factors, including a country’s rate of violent crime and the number of wars fought. After analyzing these statistics, each country is given a GPI score; and the lower the score, the better. We’ve curated a list of the most dangerous countries mentioned in the report, and you might be surprised with the results. Intrigued? Click through the gallery to see what those countries are.

Flying Turkish Airlines New A350 + My First Hot Balloon Ride

I flew on Turkish Airlines' new A350 from Montreal to Istanbul, experiencing the aircraft from both the cockpit and cabin as a passenger. The mask is no longer mandatory on Turkish Airlines unless required by the destination, and onboard services have resumed with welcome drinks and full meal service. The A350's Business Class cabin features a luxurious silver/gray decor with all aisle access, although the seat felt narrow. In Economy, the A350 has a standard 3-3-3 configuration, with seats 28A and 28K offering extra legroom due to having no seat in front. I then connected to Izmir from Istanbul on a 50-minute domestic flight with full meal service. My travels included a visit to Pamukkale to see its famous pools and my first hot air balloon experience. #goturkiye #gotürkiye

6 Best Travel Insurance Plans in Singapore (Jul 2025)

On my very first overseas trip without my parents, the airline lost my luggage for almost 24 hours. I was headed to Madrid, Spain, and had a layover in Zurich, Switzerland. It was there (probably while I was drooling over gourmet Swiss chocolates in the airport) that my luggage somehow got left behind. It caught up to me the next day, magically appearing at the reception area of my accommodation in Spain. Given the length of time that had...

What US border agents can and can’t do

Whenever travelers cross into the United States (whether by air, land, or sea), they are placed under the watchful authority of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). At these official ports of entry, CBP officers are granted wide-ranging powers to secure the country’s borders, enforce federal laws, and determine who may or may not be allowed into the nation. But while these agents have unique legal tools at their disposal (many of which differ sharply from what police can do inside the country), their authority is not without limits. Whether you are a US citizen returning home or a foreign visitor stepping onto American soil for the first time, understanding what border agents are legally allowed to do, and what they are not, can help you navigate inspections with clarity and confidence. From baggage searches and digital device screenings to questions about your beliefs and rights to legal counsel, click through this gallery to find out more about the complex legal landscape at US borders.

7 Days on a Luxury River Cruise: An Inside Look

I recently completed a European river cruise on the ultra-luxurious SS La Venezia, which was my most expensive trip yet, averaging around £500 ($650) per person per night. The roundtrip journey from Venice included flights from London and transfers to the cruise port. Excited yet somewhat apprehensive about traveling in the busy summer season, I was eager to experience this high-end cruise after taking budget river cruises in the past. The itinerary included various excursions and showcased the ship, which had been redesigned in 2020. [email protected]

Embarrassing things we all do on vacation

One of the reasons we so look forward to holidays is because we associate a whole different set of rules for life on vacation as compared to life at home. For most of us, normal standards of hygiene, composure, and integrity go out the window as soon as our passports are scanned at the airport. In addition to the lack of rules we maintain for ourselves, there are so many ways to make mistakes while traveling. There are so many seemingly harmless words and actions that vary in degrees of offensiveness all over the world. Plus, there are all the stresses of traveling in a place with a different language, or traveling by yourself, or (sometimes even worse) traveling with other people. The odds are stacked against you when it comes to keeping your composure while on holiday. What makes it worse is how easy it is to make fun of the tourists you see in your own city, with their Hawaiian-printed shirts, fanny packs, and a combined look of awe and confusion. But, if we’re being honest, we all look as ridiculous and out of place as that when we travel. And in more ways than one. Maybe it was your insistence on wearing nice sandals on a hike, the farmer’s tan (read: burn) you got on the first day, or the incredible amount of beer you drank and the dance battle you got into with a group of locals—no matter what it was, you can at least take solace in the fact that you are certainly not alone. Check out this gallery to see just a few of the numerous embarrassing moments we’ve all had while on vacation (the ones we’ll never admit to when we get back)!

Who were the Wright brothers?

Long before jets streaked across skies and airports were built on every continent across the planet, the dream of flight was considered an impossibility by everyone except for two curious brothers from the heartland of America. Wilbur and Orville Wright were not trained scientists nor wealthy industrialists; they were self-taught inventors and tinkerers who transformed wonder into reality. And so it was on a December morning in 1903 that the Wright brothers achieved the first powered flight at Kitty Hawk Beach in North Carolina, forever altering the course of human history. But how, exactly, did they get to that point? And what was the complicated legacy that they left behind? Click through this gallery to find out.
